« on: August 07, 2013, 04:10:55 PM »
Hiya,

Can we walk without a passport , is the signage that good for all 3 days ? We are starting 15 Aug and there is two of us on a budget coming down from Dublin ...any tips before we travel ...we have both done the Camino in Spain this year and are really looking forward to seeing Kerry this time of year ...

Neil and Fiona ..

Ps do we need to book into accommodations in advance or book in as we arrive ?
Pss Is there somewhere safe to leave car in tralee for 3 days and a bus back from dingle everyday ?

Sorry I missed this !

To belated answer you questions for the benfit of others
Can we walk without a passport?
Walking without a passport is fine it is the Dingle Way so you can just walk it.

is the signage that good for all 3 days
it is good but not perfect as people occasionally will tear up a sign.

hazards on day one
you need to establish which part of Camp your accomodation is in Lower Camp is reached first and there are a number of B&Bs there. Lower Camp is below the trail so if you get it wrong its a walk uphill back to the trail.
if your accomodation is in upper camp you continue on the trail meet a minor road go back unto the trail over some stepping stones and turn right at the next minor road you meet.
hazards on day 2
None mostly done on back roads with little to no traffic.
hazards on day 3

like day 2 but walkers have gotten confused in finding the trail where it leaves minor roads close to dingle.

do we need to book into accommodations in advance or book in as we arrive ?

during the busy months you would be wise to book ahead especially for Camp. We had a gathering event for the Kerry Camino this year and we filled all the accomodation in Camp it would be easy enough to bus back to Tralee from Camp and get a bus back out next day.

there is two of us on a budget coming down from Dublin

there are hostels in Tralee, Annascaul and Dingle but not in Camp.  still the accomodation in Camp is reasonable in price.

Hi there. Ii was just wondering about the camino for 2014. I have done the one in Spain before and just wondering how this one goes. Is the route well marked out? Does the group start together and all stay together as such. Also, what is the deal with accommodation. Me and my 3 friends are interested in doing it. Also what is the price. thanks

Hi Eleanors

sorry for the late reply.

for the last 2 years we have run a sort of 'Camino weekend' where a group of us walk it and encourage people like yourself to join us. we did really well the last 2 years and there was a good and friendly crowd joined us.  People had a good time. We are doing it again this year on the may bank holiday weekend so you and your friends would be most welcome!

other than that you can walk it any time with or without the passport. passports and other documentation are available from the tourist offices in Tralee and Dingle. there will be a charge for the passports as there is a cost in getting them printed.
